Living in the Moment, 01/2018, 15 x 12 watercolor on 300# Fabriano Artistico watercolor board.
I worked my way up to painting the subject from the summer afternoon that I first happened across this caterpillar diligently traversing a couple of rocks near a little waterfall along the Blue Ridge Parkway. That was in 2015 on the first day of our drive to Newfoundland. Caterpillars, the pupa stage of the life cycle of a butterfly only live a week or two, but you must admire the brilliant plan that allows the butterfly’s DNA to live on. Is DNA running the whole show? “And he planted in you the seed of eternal life.” The mutterings of an old fool… You never know where a watercolor will take your mind.
