Description
I think we have only camped or stayed at Peaks of Otter one time without hiking the Sharp Top Trail. That would have been our winter hike up the trail. I hope we will make that hike this winter. I am always amazed at the people who over the last few centuries have created this beautiful trail, especially the people who carved and hauled and placed the many flights of stairs ascending this rocky peak. Native Americans came here before Europeans arrived on the continent. The Peaks of Otter was one of the first mountain resorts in America. And, at some long ago point in time someone got the wild idea that steps would be a nice addition to the rugged trail. (Some are and others are not but, I digress) I dont know who built these steps or when they did it, but I appreciate their labor of love and share their love of this very special mountain trail. While we were descending the trail last Saturday I took a photo of a young couple who had climbed onto one of the large boulders beside the trail. We exchanged email addresses and I later got an email from one of them thanking me for taking a photo an easy thing to do. I guess its my weak thank you to the people who built these stairs.

People have been going up and down Sharpe Top Mountain for eons. Some loved the hike so much that thy wanted to leave a message in stone for us. Painting is so much easier! Thank you. JD

Thank you Leanne. Hope you always enjoy your retirement. We just returned from a 147 day road trip thru the western US in our camper. I'll have to start getting photos and sketches from that up soon. JD

Thanks very much! We just got back from a four month trip around the western US last night and your comment alerted me to this sale. A pleasant surprise for a weary traveller.
