Description
Vermillion Barn
I’ve always been a sucker for old barns, especially when weak sunlight suffuses them in a vermillion glow. So when I came across Marcia Lee Jone’s terrific Barn Gallery and saw her excellent photo called “Barn #2,” I was off to the races. My thanks to Marcia for permitting me to post my rendition of this wonderful old structure. It would be in the unpublished painting file if she had said, “No.” I hate not sharing my work, so, thanks, again, Marcia Lee.
As it turns out, this barn is a part of the Daniel Boone Homestead in Berks County, PA. Yeah, Daniel Boone, borne in Pennsylvania — who knew! Boone lived almost 86 years (November 2, 1734 to September 26, 1820) until dying due to natural causes in Osage Creek, MO. I always think of Boone as one of America’s first great real estate developers. But he lived on the frontier in an exciting and dangerous time. Towns are named after Boone all over my part of the world. I often ride up the hill to Boone, NC to buy watercolor supplies. Sometime after his death his remains were exhumed and reburied in Kentucky. (So, an Old Fool learned something today — but isn’t that one of the great things about art? Everything I paint seems to have something to teach me — to paint is to see.)
If I knew how to insert a link, I’d insert one here to take you to Barn #2. Put Marcia Lee’s name in the FAA search box and I think you’ll get there. Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy this Procreate Painting and that you’ll want to check out more of the paintings and photos on my site.
