The Arch Rock Experiment - VI 02/2016

I need to take a break from this compulsion. I started working on drafts of Valley of Fire - Arch Rock when I had reached the outer limit of my frustration with a portrait, that is still unfinished, I should probably get back to that portrait. Meanwhile, this piece began as an attempt at a looser rendition of Arch Rock. I really like the totality of the painting. Please notice the sunlight on the distant mountain behind the upthrust on the left and the terrific vagueness of the weathering rocks within that upthrust. I am also going to post a cropped version of this draft that I think is interesting. I hope you will look at and enjoy all of these watercolors.
We'll head for the North Rim of the Grand Canyon after the Masters. That trip should include a return to Valley of Fire. I suspect my next Valley of Fire piece will be in-plien.
