Description
Could be a lot of places, but places like these are disappearing into memories. This one's on the NC outer banks in Kitty Hawk -- at least until the next big hurricane hits. Now-a-days we're building castles near the sand and they're lovely to see. I think we built great memories in little cottages like this.

Congratulations on this marvellous painting being FEATURED in “PAINTING THE OLD WAY” , L….group administrator, John Malone (You may also want to participate in our discussion thread)

Thank you very much, John. I really appreciate the feature! We waited all winter for a sliver of decent weather so we could get to the Outer Banks and see if this old cottage is still staring down the Atlantic. I hope so. We are planning an August - September trip up to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. It has been on the "list" too long. I am salivating just looking at the photography. I have been doing West Texas watercolors since we returned in early December and the work is just about at critical mass. Painting is so wonderful! When I come up for air, I will visit the thread. Thanks, again, for the feature and your kind words. JD

Thank you very much for your comment. Feedback means a lot! I love old buildings, country stores and barns, especially the ones that are in the last phases of their desperate struggle with gravity. I must get around to painting a barn one day. Right this minute I'm working on finishing a Pacific sunset watercolor which will become Kalaloch - II. I will be uploading a better (high resolution digital scan) of The Get Away Place after I finish Kalaloch - II. I may also upload the pencil sketches for both pieces. We try to camp (or stay at the Lodge) at Peaks of Otter at least once or twice a year. That's some wonderful country! Isn't being an artist a 'hoot'?
