Description
I might not have gotten this right over the thrum of the radial engine and the background crackle in the head phones, but as we approached our glacier landing the pilot said that this high mountain canyon is 9,000 feet deep. Of course, the lower 3,000 feet of the gorge is filled with glacier ice. Incredible stuff -- a visit to the ice ages!

Thank you! The National Guard rescue helicopter pilot who flew the Beaver up to the Ruth Glacier was really awesome. I can't wait for our next journey to Alaska! JD

Thanks for your comments on Flying Thru the Great Gorge and Sunset on the Chena. I'm a watercolorist who takes photos so I'll be able to paint them later. Right now I'm 10 or 20,000 photos ahead of myself, but a man can dream. Again, my compliments to you on your excellent work.
